Secondhand Serenade, alias singer/songwriter John Vesely, is releasing a second studio album in February, titled A Twist in My Story. The first single "Fall For You" found its way onto iTunes earlier this week. Unlike Vesely's 2007 debut Awake, "Fall For You" features a full band, but still carries the heart-pouring lyrics and crystal clear harmonies that led Awake to become a hit out of nowhere.
Besides the full band sound, the other clear change rests in the production. For A Twist In My Story Vesely enlisted the help of producers whose previous work included albums by Nine Inch Nails and Angels & Airwaves, a far cry from the solo acoustic work heard in the past. The song itself is on par with some of the best of Awake, and is a clear break from the "baby Dashboard" that was prevalent on Awake. According to Secondhand Serenade's MySpace, other tracks will include a re-recording of Awake track "Maybe" and tracks like the title song that hearken back to the stripped down sound of old.
Ultimately Vesely is promising an album that's out to please fans first and foremost. As someone who shelled out cash for Awake, and am enjoying "Fall For You", count me in when A Twist in My Story drops in February.
