Gonna Party Like It's Your Birthday...

Just in case you don't have frequent and/or have a LiveJournal, today is Andrew McMahon's birthday. The brains behind Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin turns 26 today. Happy birthday Andrew (not that I think your reading this, but ya never know).

In celebration, i present two songs. One excellent JM track, and the only musical piece of evidence I'll accept from those that argue that Something Corporate is better than Jack's Mannequin.

Jack's Mannequin Album Leaks...Maybe

I moved into the new apartment up at school today. After spending last year in a suite with seven other people with whom I had very little in common, I'm excited for the change in scenery. This time around its 3 people, all of whom I know fairly/extremely well, and we're all hella excited. For bonus points, we got a kitchen, so no more endless dining hall food.

In my musical universe not all that much is going on, making this post rather uninteresting. However within the last hour something broke that will lead to at least one future post sometime this week. Earlier today The Glass Passenger, the much-anticipated sophomore effort from Jack's Mannequin, leaked to the internet in some form. As the story appears to be going on PunkDisasters, promo copies were sent out, but since then the track listing has changed. Nonetheless, an album featuring new JM material is out in the open, 5 weeks before the slated September 30 release date.

I have no idea how close to the actual, final release the one I have is. I will keep checking and will post a review of the copy I have regardless later this week. Anyone with the actual leak (allegedly the REAL album leaked today) or more info should drop me a line.

Jack's Mannequin, Pearl Jam do stuff at Lollapalooza

Jack's Mannequin, the side project from Something Corporate frontman Andrew McMahon, played a new song at the Lollapalooza concert this past weekend. The song, entitled "Cellular Phone" indicates the JM will be returning for another album, though McMahon has previously said that Something Corporate has not disbanded.

Pearl Jam also made waves at the festival; during their hit "Daughter", Eddie Vedder started singing Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall", interjecting the line "George Bush, leave this world alone". AT&T, which was streaming the weekend-long concert on its website, had a wonderfully convenient audio glitch during the song, so that fans watching on their computer heard nothing. Pearl Jam has expressed concern over the matter, and is encouraging fans to go to their website and report other politically motivated censorship incidents on the part of AT&T. On the other hand, AT&T swears that the glitch was not an act of censorship, and is working to correct the audio problem on the stream. Vedder made other politically charged statements in the concert that weren't edited, so I'm inclined to tell Pearl Jam to lighten up a bit, though I can see why they're so mad.

I generally try to keep my personal life out of this blog, because it just hasn't seemed appropriate whatwith the LJ and Facebook. But this past week has been one of those weeks where everything gets affected, especially the music. One more thing; music brings out a lot of emotions in me, but very few pieces of music can bring me to tears (the ones that can...we don't talk about). Ronnie Day's debut album, aptly titled The Album, came damned close to being one of those. If you can get your hands on The Album, buy it. Till then, check out his myspace, it gives you just as good a glimpse. He's playing Penn's Landing on the 29th with Dashboard and a bunch of others as part of MTVU's concert series...looking into trying to go to this one...
